What is Video Auto-Crop in Meta Advantage+ Creative Enhancements?

Video Auto-Crop is part of the Visual Touch-Ups enhancement in Meta’s Advantage+ Creative.

When enabled (at the Campaign, Ad Set, or Ad level), Meta automatically crops and resizes your video footage to better fit different placements across Facebook & Instagram.

This can include adjusting aspect ratio, trimming frame edges, or scaling video to conform to the layout demands of Stories, Reels, Feed, etc.

Why should I turn it off?

Auto-cropping videos often introduces issues that can degrade the user experience or brand perception:

  • Key visual elements may be cut off. For example, important product details, brand logos, or on-screen text might fall outside the cropped frame.

  • Distorted framing. Automatic resizing may shift focus or scale subjects in ways that look unbalanced.

  • Inconsistent visual presentation across placements. When different versions of a video look quite different, brand consistency suffers.

  • Misalignment with creative intention. If you carefully composed the video (scene layout, subject positioning, background), auto-crop may betray that intention.

  • Confusion in previews. What you see in the preview may not match user reality, especially for smaller screens or unusual placement orientation.

How does this Improvement work?

Opteo watches for campaigns that have Video Auto-Crop enabled, and if we find one, we'll recommend switching it off.

You'll see a note showing how long it’s been active (for example: “This campaign had Video Auto-Crop enabled 25 days ago.”)

When you apply the Improvement, we disable Video Auto-Crop on the campaign, so your videos play in their original footage - without automatic frame adjustments.

When is Video Auto-Crop most harmful?

  • When the video has important composition details (e.g., product shots, logos, text overlays) near edges.

  • For campaigns emphasising brand identity, where visual consistency is important.

  • For placements with unusual or vertical aspect ratios (Stories, Reels) where cropping is more aggressive and likely to omit content.

  • In videos with on-screen text or graphics near the borders: auto crop can unintentionally cut them off.

When might it be acceptable?

  • If you have flexible video content framed broadly (e.g. lots of margin space) so crop won’t remove important parts.

  • For placements where uniform display is less critical (e.g. awareness campaigns rather than product demonstration).

  • When creative resources are limited, and the trade-off of perfect framing vs. breadth of placement may be worth it.

If it makes sense, feel free to dismiss the Improvement instead.
