Why is Opteo showing an ad blocker warning?

What triggers the 'Please disable your ad blocker for Opteo to work properly' notification, and how to stop it appearing, including when you've already removed your ad blocker.

When Opteo loads, you might see a notification saying: "Please disable your ad blocker for Opteo to work properly."

Why the warning appears

Opteo is a PPC optimisation tool, so some of the requests it makes look like ad-related content to ad blockers and privacy extensions. When one of these blocks part of the app, features can fail to load or behave unpredictably.

Each time the app loads, Opteo checks whether anything it needs was blocked. If it was, the warning appears. It clears on its own the next time the app loads without anything being blocked. There is nothing to dismiss or recheck manually.

How to fix it

  1. Open your ad blocker's settings and add app.opteo.com to its allowlist (sometimes called whitelisting, or "don't run on this site").

  2. Refresh Opteo.

If you'd rather remove the ad blocker entirely, fully quit and reopen your browser afterwards so the change takes effect.

Still seeing the warning after removing your ad blocker?

Something else is still blocking Opteo. The usual culprits:

  • Other extensions with blocking features. Privacy extensions (Ghostery, Privacy Badger, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials), antivirus browser add-ons, and some VPN extensions block the same content ad blockers do.

  • Built-in browser blocking. Brave (Shields), Opera (built-in ad blocker), and Microsoft Edge (Tracking prevention set to Strict) can block content without any extension installed. Turn the protection off for app.opteo.com.

  • Network-level blocking. Office firewalls, DNS filters (such as Pi-hole or NextDNS), and some VPNs block ad-related requests for every device on the network. Loading Opteo on a different network, like a mobile hotspot, is a quick way to rule this out.

  • The browser needs a restart. Removing or disabling an extension sometimes only takes effect after fully quitting and reopening the browser.

A quick way to isolate the cause: open Opteo in a private or incognito window (where most extensions are off by default) or in a different browser. If the warning disappears there, the cause is an extension or setting in your main browser.

While something is blocking Opteo, parts of the app may fail to load or show incomplete data. It's worth resolving the warning even if everything looks normal.
