Metrics in LinkedIn accounts

LinkedIn reports metrics differently than other platforms. Here's how.

You will see less data in LinkedIn segments than you might expect. This is because LinkedIn only reports on metrics for segments when they reach a minimum threshold of 3 for spend, clicks and conversions. This is part of LinkedIn's privacy features.

In Opteo's performance segments for LinkedIn, this means:

  • Segments with fewer than 3 clicks will show as 0. The same is true for conversion count, conversion value, and spend.

  • Segments which show 0 for both conversions and spend will not show in the list.

  • Because of these limitations, low volume segments will be hidden.

  • Conversion value is not available for demographic segments.

Differently from (for example) Google Ads, conversion events are not back dated to the time of the click. Because of this, you might see segments with conversions without any spend. This happens because the campaign spent outside of the lookback window, while the subsequent conversion happened within it.

To get the most out of LinkedIn Segments:

  • Chose the largest possible lookback window - this will result in fewer low volume segments being hidden.

  • Use Segments to get an overview of your high volume segments, keeping in mind that they don't show a full picture of low volume segments.

  • Prioritise using LinkedIn Segments to monitor accounts using CPA mode. For ROAS mode, segments in the professional demographics category will be hidden.
